STEVE STILLS

Skepta #SHUTDOWN

On 15th April 2010 Skepta tweeted that he had so much love for his supporters that one day he was going to throw a free party in a car park and they were all invited.

At 4pm on April 30th 2016 he tweeted his fans to meet him in an empty car park at sundown. Twitter listened, and by 8pm the same night, just as planned, hundreds of amateur gunfingerists showed up to get Shoreditch #shutdown.

Hastily arranged, it was a case of turn up and see what happens. With a queue of fans snaking round the block over an hour before it was due to kick off, by the time Skepta turned up with Boy Better Know in tow, the energy was already primed to blow.

Then it happened. As each tune played out, Skepta taunted fate, saying they’ll continue until the police turn up.

With crowds spilling onto the street, people were seen watching from roof tops, while the Number 8 bus to Bow Church was stopped dead in its tracks.

After about 40 minutes, the police arrived and Skepta left through the crowd, causing fans to trample each other down as they try to get close to him. It was officially a #shutdown
